Week 6: Long Live the Winning Streak
What's up MFFL fans and managers and welcome back to the Weekly Wrap-up that usually gets posted every Tuesday except for weeks where I am too lazy to write these things! (this is one of those weeks. But you can finally stop stressing about how I'm doing Ian because here it is) Week 6 was dominated by the little fish of the pond, who have yet to really make their presence known in the league so far this season, other than from embarrassingly low point totals and crappy records. But this week, they finally showed up and closed the gap on the upper ranks of the table. The bottom 4 teams all united to join into the Top 6 point totals of the week, and the previously 12th ranked RAPOs actually claimed the top spot of Week 6. Meanwhile, some previously top ranked teams faltered and really slipped up as we saw a new season worst point total this week from one of our top teams (Connor thought this team should be ranked #2 in the Power Rankings by the way and was trashing the studio's rankings because of it. Look how that turned out Connor. Also all of us at MFFL Studios really loved your winning streak. Can't wait to hear all about this winning streak years in the future as if its still relevant). Let's dive into the updated Power Rankings since a few giant swings have really caused a few shake ups in the outlooks of certain teams.
Power Rankings:
- Kraft Beer: GM Ian has orchestrated a near perfect start to the season for the Krafties as they are the only team to have never dipped below 100 points for a single week.
- Bigpapihugetime: The greatest WR corps in the league may have to do a little resting as WR Cooper is nursing a leg injury.
- Mr. Nice Guy: Somehow this team keeps on losing. They need to rebrand. #NoMoreMr.NiceGuy
- The Underachievers: Somehow GM Dom and the Let Downs are #4 in the rankings. I blame all the other teams not living up to expectations. But WR Hill is back and the Mahomes stack is looking lethal once again. Maybe this can give RB Jones a breather to rest his back from carrying this team.
- Leprechaun Soldiers: Despite the loss GM Connor still makes it into the top 5 for a string of solid performances and a more positive outlook than some other teams. Plus RB Gordon should improve and paired with fellow RB Conner could make for a spooky next few weeks for opponents.
- Belichick Yo Self: I was rooting for you! WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU! GM David put up the worst performance for any team this season, 1 week after nearly breaking the all time record. Just for that, you're having a 1 week timeout outside of the top 5.
- Scoregasms: Another victory for GM Brody and the Gasms really look to be standing up for the occasion. Another 2 TE system is what all the fans want so let's make it happen.
- Tittsburgh Feelers: 2 straight sub 100 point performances from GM Matt has resulted in a few ticks down the rankings while RB Kamara's limping is a minor cause for concern for the next couple weeks as well.
- Miking Mikes: The most unexciting team claims another meh victory and GM Grafton is pissed. GM Darren isn't complaining but is certainly questioning trading away Thielen and Conner.
- Romanian RAPOs: Is this how GM Michael finally turns things around for a franchise that has seen nothing but struggles in recent memory? Probably not, but 1 week at the top sure was fun.
- 5 Year Plan: Another 100+ performance for the Stalinists. Is this the new norm? If so they might finally crack the top 10.
- Juice is Loose: GM Kelly and the Juice Boxes have not cracked 100 points since making the trade.
Matchup Highlights:
GM Michael and the Romanian RAPOs (2-4) took over Week 6 with a 136-120 victory over Mr. Nice Guy (1-5) in the Wildcat Matchup of the Week. The two bottom feeders left it all out on the field in this shootout as big play was met with bigger play which was followed by biggest play, as QB Wilson led the RAPOs once again with 33 points from a slew of ACCURATE passes towards OPEN receivers in the end-zone for his 4th game with 3 or more TDs. For once, the Redskins combo actually worked in fantasy as old man AP and Scary Terry lit up the Dolphins with a combined 40 points while the RB duo of CMC and Michel combined for a 30 point rampage which could have been even bigger given the games both teams had. Michel was denied countless goaline opportunities, instead forced to watch QB Brady sneak 2 TDs in and Bolden vulture another, while CMC was stifled by the Bucs front line all game. As a result, WR Samuel was able to cash in 2 TDs for the RAPOs, ROLLING into and out of the end-zone (if you saw his motorcycle celebration you would get this joke, or if you read this message in the parenthesis which explained the joke. Did I ruin it? Sweet). Even the Defenses joined in on this shootout, with Denver scoring 25 for the RAPOs and Carolina scoring 22 for the Nice Guys. With high scoring all across the board, it was QB Minshew who really blew it. 5 points from the rookie QB killed all the momentum the GM Grafton had drew up as they fell yet again and now sit alone at the bottom of the table.
Bigpapihugetime (5-1) edged past 5 Year Plan (2-4) in a close 122-118 victory. This one had the makings of a true nail-biter all the way, as multiple back and forth touchdowns were scored in the late afternoon games on Sunday as all 3 of GM August's RBs scored over 20 points. RB DJ joined in on the 20 point RB club for GM Kurt and the Huge Times while WR Godwin dominated yet again with multiple big first down catches en route to 151 yards. Both teams had disappointments in the QB room with both Garoppolo and Prescott scoring sub 20 while an injury to WR Cooper left the door wide open for GM August to pull off the giant upset needing only 5 points from Juju on Sunday Night. He got 0.7. A heartbreaking defeat and back to the drawing board yet again to restructure this plan of his. At least he's got 5 years to execute.
Scoregasms (2-4) are on a true winning streak (hear that Connor?) as they knocked off The Underachievers (3-3) in a 120-102 victory. With WR Hill finally back from injury, The Let Downs were at full force once again and did what they do best: create hope and hype from big lays like 21 points from Hill and double digit points from TE Cook, before ultimately disappointing with 5 points from RB Jones who was supposed to get 40 points again apparently. QB Ryan led the way for GM Brody and the Scoregasms as he led all players with 39 points on the week while RB Carson continued his tear with 25 points of his own.
Kraft Beer (4-2) comfortably defeated a red hot Leprechaun Soldiers (2-4) team who had just been in the middle of a winning streak. QB Watson could only manage 32 points for GM Connor and the Leprechauns rather than his 50 points from the week prior and the difference really showed. RB Conner held his own with 27 points, but disappointments from RB Gordon and WR Cooks really caused the Soldiers to misfire in this matchup as the Krafties easily dismantled the threat with 28 points from New England Defense while newly acquired QB Murray exploded for 36 points. GM Ian ended up going 3-1 without star RB Barkley who is all set to return this coming week and with a RB crew of Barkley, Chubb, and Fournette, opposing managers should be running away in terror.
Weekly Awards:
- Oh Boy! Play of the Week:
GM August made the excellent decision to start RB Hyde who scored 21 points on 27 touches for over 125 yards while also finding the end-zone. Hyde has truly been an underrated player this season as he currently sits as the RB 18 on the season.
- Murphy Mixup:
GM Augusts also gets the Mixup award for his tear jerking start/sit decision at WR on Sunday Night. Needing just 5 points from his last remaining player, he was faced with starting either Juju, who had been struggling from poor QB play all season, or Mike Williams, who had been struggling with more injuries. Mike Williams, along with his 10 points were left on the bench, while GM August's ill-placed faith in Juju left him staring defeat in the eyes and saying "All according to plan".
- WTF Waiver Wire:
GM Dominic claimed Pittsburgh defense off of Waivers, beating out both GMs Michael and Matt, to capitalize on their excellent matchup this week against... wait they're on BYE?? They do play Miami next week however. Excellent pickup Dom, way to be ahead of the curve on this one!
- Crackhead of the Week:
GM Kelly gets the Crackhead award this week in honor of Saquon returning from injury. Was it worth it Kelly? Was it really worth it? Now Ian has 3 RB1s while some of us have 0. Does anyone in your front office ever stop and think whether making trades just don't work for the Juice Boxes?
Wildcat Matchup of the Week:
Let's take a quick look into this upcoming week with a preview of the Week 7 Wildcat Matchup of the Week. A 1 vs 2 matchup is on the card for us this weekend as two 5-1 teams enter the ring at the top of the table. GM Kurt and Bigpapihugetime take on GM Darren and Miking Mikes in a matchup marred by a bunch of injuries. 3 Big Papi starters are have been tagged with the big Q as WR Jones, WR Cooper, and RB DJ all battle injuries, while RB Gurley and WR Gallup are also questionable for the Mikes. This would be an easy WR Thomas takeover as the lone superstar at 100%, but he faces a stingy Chicago Defense that might as well give him a questionable tag as well in terms of scoring fantasy points. Instead, we could have an epic QB showdown on our hands as Prescott and Wentz will face off both on the fantasy field and the actual field as Dallas takes on Philly. I will personally be watching the RB matchup with great interest between Ingram and Jacobs as either one could do enough to give their team the edge in this one. Keep monitoring the injury updates as whoever battles through and plays could win the week. Somehow GM Darren finds a way to play every team on their worst week while GM Kurt never seems to have a bad week. One of these two trends will end this weekend and sadly I'm with Grafton here. Julio plays but gets shut down by trade acquisition CB Ramsey while Cooper misses and Jacobs lights up the Packers for a victory as QB Prescott struggles due to his missing star WR but succeeds enough to let WR Gallup have a great week for the Mikes. (Wow that was very specific huh? Can I get $5 FAAB if this happens? Sweet).
That is all for this week's Weekly Wrap-up! Hope you all had a good time (IGH). Also if you noticed that there were only 4 matchups analyzed in the Matchup Highlights section, that's because the other 2 were complete disgraces. No highlights from them and its honestly a shame for teams to earn a victory from performances like that. (Also what do you guys think of the extended parenthesis commentary? Is it amusing to break the 4th wall like this or is it too distracting? Let me know to get bumped up the Waiver Wire Priority List. (I can do that because I have all the power. I can even change the scores of the games. Don't worry though, I only do that sometimes.) Okay that's all from the extended parenthesis commentary, see you guys). Hope everyone has a great rest of your week and an even better weekend! What're ya gonna do?
