Welcome back to the (bi) Weekly Wrap-Up! We have returned by popular demand for people to see and complain about the Power Rankings, but more importantly, so a formal discussion can be launched on the all time awful trade that transpired earlier this week. Restraining from diving fully into the impacts of this trade right away, the one thing it did was remind us all of the infamous Julio Trade. Never Forget the Julio Trade; despite how much GM Kelly wants us all to erase it from our memory and the league archives.
Firstly, as always however, let's reveal this weeks Power Rankings. While the teams at the top seem to have really cemented themselves among this year's competitors, instability is the name of the game at the bottom half as another week has gone by with nearly every bottom 8 team exchanging spots on the rankings once again.
Power Rankings:
- Mr. Nice Guy
- DTDB Irish Assassins
- Belichick Yo Self
- Scoregasms
- Fantasy Football Team
- Top 2 Not 2
- Action Jackson
- Romanian RAPOs
- Tittsburgh Feelers
- Bigpapihugetime
- Covid's Warriors
- Don't Even Schmatter
Notable Movements-
- GM Ian, after bolstering his lineup with his recent trade with GM David, has once again managed the Two Timers to another big victory and top performance, climbing further up the rankings, up from a season low of 11. However a injury to top RB Sanders may stunt this team's growth for the time being.
- After a terrible showing in his latest matchup against GM Michael, GM Matt of the Tittsburgh Feelers has seen his losing streak grow to 4 and his ranking drop from a season high of 2 all the way down to 9. Averaging only 103 points in the past 4 weeks, the Feelers have only had 1 game above 110 points in that same timespan, tied for lowest in the league.
- GM August's latest trade deal is the least of his worries at this point. Okay, the trade is a major worry too, but the Nihilists have been proving that nothing really matters by their performances on the field. They have not eclipsed the 100 point barrier in 3 weeks averaging a league worst 79 points over those games, making GM Dominic's team look like a group of all-stars.
Matchup Highlights:
- Covid's Warriors (0-6) stays infected with defeatitis as their suffering continues against Fantasy Football Team (4-2) 127-125.
With top WRs Hopkins and Diggs still to play, GM Dominic needed just 22 points on Monday night to secure the first victory for the Warriors this season. Instead, they came up 10 yards short as a last gasp Hopkins catch and run was stopped short of the goalline, failing to secure the game winning touchdown. Despite the tremendous effort from QB Tannehill for 37 points, and RBs Conner and DJ who combined for 35 points of their own, the performance was not enough to complete the upset against GM Darren and his team. The players on The Team performed and got points, securing the victory.
- Mr. Nice Guy (4-2) hangs on in shootout as GM Kelly and Action Jackson (3-3) fall apart Monday Night.
GM Kelly was surely kicking himself after his team's self-inflicted demolition on Monday Night. With 3 players ready to go and GM Grafton forced to watch on the sideline, everything that could go wrong for the Jackies went. 2 fumbles from star RB Zeke saw him benched for a portion of the game as the Cardinals ran away with it, meanwhile WR Ceedee suffered from terrible QB play for most of the game. Finally, to complete the failure WR Kirk was left on the bench along with his 2 TDs, while RB Edmonds starting in his place barely mustered 3 total points. The Nice Guys however had an excellent performance, led by QB Watson who exploded for 41 points, outperforming Action Jackson himself who just failed to keep pace at 32 points.
Trade Talks: Enough cannot be talked about how terrible this trade really is.
Don't Even Schmatter throws away top TE Kelce, gets scraps in return from Scoregasms.
- Don't Even Schmatter and GM August acquire WRs Chark and Landry, RB Peterson
- Scoregasms and GM Brody acquire TE Kelce, RBs Duke Johnson and Mattison
Desperate for skill position players across the board after weeks of terrible performances, GM August notified the league that both star QB Mahomes and TE Kelce would not be having their contracts renewed and would instead be added to the trade block. It seems GM August then took the very first offer he received, a blind dart throw from GM Brody for the league's top TE. A struggling duo of WRs Chark and Landry now enter the Nihilist locker room where they will surely fit right in, both having surpassed 10 weekly points only twice. Meanwhile, to "bolster" his RB room, GM August was able to squeeze out of GM Brody his prized RB Peterson, who has been fending off rookie RB Swift in the Detroit backfield. GM Brody essentially stole the best TE in the league, donating 3 mid-tier players to charity in the process. GM August failed to even match value on his TE, not cementing any further skill positions going forward, all while not even getting a proper replacement at the TE position! Instead GM Brody was able to acquire a top player, regardless of position, while giving up only 1 starter. GM August gets a Trade Grade of D for a near horrendous trade that makes me think he was getting trade advice straight from GM Kelly. GM Brody gets a B+ for the trade, getting incredible value for a top player, although not necessarily filling a need at the TE position at all, and losing valuable depth at the RB position. With 3 viable TEs now on the roster, expect GM Brody to continue dealing in the TE market going forward, looking to capitalize on his surplus of assets at the position. Is it possible the 2 TE system makes one last comeback for GM Brody and the Scoregasms?
Weekly Awards:
- Oh Boy! Play of the Week:
Although not a start/sit decision that anyone would have questioned, GM David started RB Henry against the back's arch-enemy GM Brody. As tradition, RB Henry exploded for over 260 total yards and 2 TDs, once again exercising his personal vendetta against the Scoregasms manager with another vintage 90+ yard TD run. GM Brody still has yet to fully recover from the PTSD of his last faceoff against RB Henry, who single handedly knocked him out of the 2018 playoffs with a similar 40+ point eruption. If these two teams cross paths once again in the playoffs, things could get ugly.
GM Kelly made a textbook Murphy Mixup mistake late Monday Night, in which he switched back and forth between RB Edmonds and WR Kirk at his FLEX position. Minutes before kickoff, he made one last switch, locking in RB Edmonds into the starting lineup, despite facing off against a Stacked Box Nice Guy's defense. Overthinking at its finest, Kirk caught 2 TDs for over 20 points while RB Edmonds barely saw the ball, managing only 3 points. The difference of which, exactly enough to have turned a certain victory for GM Kelly into a crushing defeat.
Honorable mention: GM Dominic left RB Gaskin and his 14 points on the bench while starting WR Anderson against a Cover 2 scheme who only managed 9 points. Could have had your first win Dom, but you left it on the bench.
Top 2 GM Ian splashed the cash to acquire RB Scott for $32, hoping he can replace the production of star RB Sanders who was lost to injury. Expected to miss just 1-2 weeks before the bye, RB Scott will surely need to perform at a high rate in order to return value on the big spending from his new manager.
It's August.
- Defensive Coordinator of the Week:
GM Darren implemented a Cover 2 scheme in his matchup against GM Dominic, aiming to limit the effect of star WRs Hopkins and Diggs along with surprise success story WR Anderson who also got the start at FLEX. The 6 point deduction just outplayed the defensive scheme from GM Dominic, helping to ensure the victory for the Fantasy Football Team.
Wildcat Matchup of the Week:
Looking forward to week 7, one matchup jumps out as having the potential to steal the show. The undefeated DTDB Irish Assassins (6-0) face off against easily their most formidable opponents so far this season: Mr. Nice Guy (4-2). It's a rare treat to have a #1 vs #2 Power Rankings battle in a season, yet this week we have been gifted by a double treat, top 2 on the Power Rankings, and top 2 in the standings, a mid season firepowered battle that some pundits are calling a MFFL Championship preview. While it is still to early to tell just how successful each team will be come postseason, this matchup has massive playoff implications as the victor will gain a massive advantage on claiming one of the all important Week 1 playoff byes. Furthermore, with a win today, GM Connor and the Assassins will all but clinch their spot in the playoffs this year by hitting the 7 win mark, often touted as the playoff barrier since the move to a 6 team playoffs. Unfortunately for this matchup however, GM Grafton and the Nice Guys will be left without star RBs Cook and Taylor who are both on bye, forcing backup RBs Lindsay and McKissic into starting positions against the juggernaut Assassins. Early predictions have Assassins' RBs Jones and Davis taking full advantage of the positional mismatch and continuing their strong campaigns this week while QB Allen will rebound against a nonexistent Jets team. However, I am sneakily expecting Nice Guy QB Watson and WR Fuller to fully keep pace with the opposing RBs, making the X Factor matchup between WR Ridley and Jones the one to watch in a surefire shootout between the Falcons and the Lions. If WR Ridley is able to get the upper hand over his mentor and teammate Julio, this one could come down to the wire, giving RB Lindsay a slim chance to win it as the last player remaining at 4pm on Sunday.
Well, that should wrap things up for week 6. Best of luck in week 7 everyone. Except you August, you don't deserve any.
