Week 3: A Good Start (for some)

Hello there! Welcome back to the Week 3 edition of the Weekly Wrap-up, the one where Brody tried his absolute hardest to lose, and for the first time this season, actually succeeded. Also featured this week is a breathtaking story on how the worst team in the league returned to its former glory, proving once and for all that it does pay to be a nice guy. Don't lose faith in humanity just yet folks, GM Grafton is still out there fighting the good fight. Let's take a quick look at the power rankings before diving into some matchup highlights to see where things stand in MFFL.

Power Rankings:

  1. Bigpapihugetime: GM Kurt and the Big Papis have put together 3 amazing performances and are showing no signs of slowing down. The only remaining undefeated team is looking like a machine.
  2. The Juice is Loose: GM Kelly suffered a tough setback despite a stellar Week 3, but with a healthy and productive team, a bounce-back is imminent.
  3. Tittsburgh Feelers: A close win in a high scoring matchup will bolster morale in the Feelers locker room as they look to keep their hot start going.
  4. Romanian RAPOs: A second straight top half performance earns GM Michael and the RAPOs their first victory of the season. A healthy group of RBs means the league is wide OPEN for them to go on a run.
  5. The Underachievers: GM Dominic and the Let Downs had a great week despite the defeat and have shown improvement each week as they step into form.
  6. Belichick Yo Self: Another team that has grown with each passing game, GM David has laid the foundation for a potential repeat. Now the building begins.
  7. Kraft Beer: A team crippled with injuries wins another game, but with their star RB Barkley out for 2 months, the future remains unclear.
  8. Mr. Nice Guy: The People's Champ has returned. A 145 point performance along with their 1st victory, the Nice Guys are ready to torch the league with kindness.
  9. Miking Mikes: Stuck in mediocrity, GM Darren has failed to recreate his team's week 1 performance (119 points) yet again with major concerns at the RB position.
  10. Scoregasms: Ian, I'm terribly sorry I ever put GM Brody above you in the rankings. He really is trash.
  11. Leprechaun Soldiers: Speaking of trash...
  12. 5 Year Plan: Don't let GM August's record fool you. He beat Brody.
Matchup Highlights:

In the Wildcat Matchup of the Week, Kraft Beer (2-1) defeated Miking Mikes (2-1) for their second win of the season. Meanwhile, GM Darren and the Mikes suffered their first defeat of the season after only scoring 107 points. Just as projected in last week's Wrap-up, the Mikes struggled immensely at RB, as their 2 starters, Conner and Jacobs, combined for 10 total points, relying on the Timeless One to save them with 17 points of his own. with Barkley suffering a gruesome high ankle sprain and Fournette continuing his impressive inefficiency, GM Ian turned to WR Allen, who had 13 catches for 183 receiving yards, while adding 2 TDs for the victory. League Leading TE Engram was also key in the victory with 19 points, easily outproducing TE Andrews of the Mikes who disappointed with 2 points. GM Darren will look to right the ship in week 4 while GM Ian will be looking to pick up the pieces of his RB core and build on his win streak.

An ecstatic GM Michael celebrated the first victory for Romanian RAPOs (1-2) as they knocked off the previously undefeated The Juice is Loose (2-1) in an absolute 120-115 nail-biter. The game remained close up until the very last play of Sunday Night Football, where GM Kelly needed a late RB Chubb goal line TD to secure the victory. Instead, the Browns threw 4 incompletions and the RAPOs drank from the juice box of victory. Key in the victory was QB Wilson who put the RAPOs on his back with 4 TDs for 46 points good for 37% of the team's points for the week. A meaningless TD with 0 seconds on the clock for QB Wilson won the game for the RAPOs as they will look to extend their winning streak to 2 next week while the Juice Boxes will surely rebound as long as RBs Cook and Chubb continue to dominate.

In a battle of the top dogs undefeated Bigpapihugetime (3-0) defeated previously undefeated Belichick Yo Self (2-1) in a high scoring game that did not disappoint. After GM Kurt's Cowboy stack of QB Prescott and WR Cooper combined for 49 points early on Sunday, GM David closed the gap with a Ram's stack of his own between QB Goff and WR Kupp who combined for 42 points on Sunday Night, leaving the matchup tied entering Monday Night Football. It was there that Chicago Defense stepped up for the Huge Times, securing the victory with multiple turnovers and a touchdown return.

In a snooze fest in which neither team really deserved a victory, 5 Year Plan (1-2) sneaked by with a 96-88 point win over the Scoregasms (0-3). GM Brody just couldn't get it up this weekend, and it showed as 5 players failed to reach the 10 point benchmark, with none of them except QB Ryan surpassing 15 points. The Stalinists had all the chance to takeover the game, but instead opted for a balanced approach, with 5 players above 10 points, but none above 20. It seems both teams are still in the restructuring period as it is back to the drawing board for GM Brody and the Scoregasms, while GM August is still at the drawing board, even after 5 years of planning. (His drawing board is probably just a diagram of trade proposals that have no chance of getting accepted).

The people's champion returned to 2018 form after an extremely slow start as GM and Mr. Nice Guy (1-2) claimed their first victory over Leprechaun Soldiers (1-2). GM Grafton's team exploded to a 145 point performance, nearly doubling their week 2 73 point disappointment, absolutely bulldozing GM Connor and his Leprechauns in a rout so bad it made a good ole fashioned DTDB Beatdown look like a nice, sweet cuddle session. Everywhere Connor turned, he got plowed by a superstar performance: WR Evans (39 points), WR McLaurin (15 points), RB McCaffrey (27 points), TE Waller (18 points). This led to the biggest blowout of the season. GM Grafton will be excited to continue this strong performance into week 4, while Connor will be shivering in the corner trying to forget what just happened.

The Underachievers (1-2) suffered a heartbreaking 1.4 point loss to Tittsburgh Feelers (2-1) in a matchup that finished 124.8-123.4. QB Mahomes and WR Lockett both had heroic efforts in the defeat as they combined for 59 points while RB Jones had a swift 15 points as well. On the other hand, epic failures from QB Mayfield and WR Golladay of the Feelers, who had 12 points and 2 points respectively, was saved by the concentrated efforts of a few players. RBs Kamara, Mack, and McCoy put the team on their backs with 70 combined points, while TE Hooper scored 20 points of his own. Together these star players combined for 72% of the teams points this week, despite being less than half of the starting roster.

Weekly Awards:
  • Murphy Mixup:
GM Kurt gets this award despite the victory for leaving RB Ingram and his league high 35 points on the bench for WR Godwin who barely mustered 5 points.

  • Oh Boy! Play of the Week:
WR McLaurin got the start for the Nice Guys and he didn't disappoint. He let 5 people die and then scored 15 points in the victory. GM Grafton was seen on the sideline nodding his head in approval, knowing he has a potential Waiver pickup of the season rostered in Week 3.

  • WTF Waiver Wire:
GM Brody saw that a backup QB would be filling in for an injured Cam Newton. He saw the 100 yard game TE Olsen put up the week before. He had heard that backup and young QBs statistically target their TEs at a higher rate. He knew that the Cardinals had a league worst defense, especially against TEs, giving up 20 points to both TEs Hockenson and Andrews in the first 2 weeks. He then decided to DROP Olsen to pick up former NFL Commentator TE Witten. Olsen scored 2 TDs in a 22 point performance while Witten scored 6; a difference of 16 points. GM Brody lost by 8. Brody was better at fantasy when someone else was drafting his team.

Week 4 Wildcat Matchup of the Week:
In all honesty, there aren't really any mouth watering matchups this week. The closest and highest scoring seems to be the matchup between two (2-1) teams looking to bounce back after their first defeat of the season. The Juice is Loose  and GM Kelly will take on Belichick Yo Self and GM David. GM Kelly will be needing a big performance from his franchise QB Jackson as he faces off against fellow Juice Box RB Chubb. These two will need to have sharp straws to pop the juice box hole (awful metaphor I know shut up) as the rest of the skill players for the Juice Boxes will be facing TUFF defenses as Diggs and Cook could get held in check by the elite Chicago defense while TE Ertz might be on lockdown as he must dismantle a stingy Green Bay defense. This will create a big opportunity for WR Adams of the Yo Selfs to finally break out against a Philadelphia secondary that seems to have stolen their playbook off of Finn Island. Expect WR Adams to give GM David an early lead Thursday Night heading into the weekend while a Gordon vs Kupp WR showdown could be the difference. This matchup seems all set up however for a Sunday Night winner from Dallas Kicker Maher to win it for GM David and the Yo Selfs, in what will surely be a shootout.

Thank you all for a superb start to our 5th year of the MFFL! With awesome new features like the league website, pick em spreads, and League History and Record book, we are already together making this our best season yet. Let's continue this into week 4! Keep Pounding!
