Week 8 and Waiver Wire Deadline
Greetings and welcome back to another edition of the Weekly Wrap-up in MFFL news! Week 8 was business as usual for the most part: GM Brody and the Scoregasms won against a team who had their worst game of the season, GM Michael and Crunching Munchies lost on Monday Night comeback, and GM Darren is pissed at himself for making a dingus move and complaining about all the players that he drafted and then proceeded to drop are going off. If Kelly and the Bums pick back up Valdes-Scandling for $7 then it would be a textbook week in the Millbrook Fantasy League. With a multitude of blowouts this week, a few big changes have been made to the Power Rankings:
- Mr. Nice Guy: GM Grafton continues his legendary season with a simple victory this week against the Bums, but more importantly, with a third straight 130+ point. There's no debate here.
- Hoochie Mamas: Another exceptional week from GM August and his Hoochie Mamas. The rise of RBs Mack and Chubb show great promise for the Mamas as they look to become a more balanced offense.
- Ravioli Ravioli: GM Ian should open up a business where struggling Fantasy Organizations hire him to come fix their team because he has completely flipped the Ravioli's season around and with Sanders the official lead dog following the DT trade, they will be a nightmare matchup if they can sneak into the playoffs.
- Pasca's Daddy: With a second straight 115+ point week, Daddy and Dom soar up the Power Rankings and finally break into the top 5 for the first time this season.
- Scoregasms: Yes, Scoregasms have basically a free win every week. Don't let that fool you into thinking they aren't a powerhouse team though. Breaking the 100 point barrier yet again this week despite having QB Brady put up only 13, they have the balance and depth to make it deep into the playoffs. Plus, who else can rock a 2 TE set that nearly outscores their opponent's RBs?
- Ravagn' Rainbows: This drop may seem alarming for a Rainbows franchise that has been a top 3 lock all season, but two straight weeks of sub 85 have got to be quite worrisome for GM Connor. Yes, we can blame it on the injuries and the curse but the truth is, other teams are getting better for the second half stretch while the Rainbows are showing signs of fatigue.
- Tittsburgh Feelers: The Feelers exploded this week for 148 points, topping the league with 7 of their 9 starters putting up double digits. However the loss of WR Fuller hurts both their WR corps along with their QB Watson, but with Ridley, Cooper, and Shepard in the ranks, one of them will surely step in to fill the spot.
- Miking Mikes: GM Darren has more to worry about than all of the WRs he has dropped, as with Yeldon going on bye and Fournette poised to return the next week, he has no viable RB to support Kamara. Keenan Allen and Gronk have both been major disappointments and they will need to rely on Brown, Boyd, and Sutton for the rest of the season, which could be a good thing, unless Darren drops them.
- Bigpapihugetime: A big win for the Huge Times breathes new life into their dwindling playoff hopes as WR Hopkins and RBs Mixon and Drake team up to perform CPR. Still boasting the greatest WR duo in the league, they could string together a few big weeks in the near future as long as they can get their second RB to remain healthy and productive.
- Belichick Yo Self: Just when it seemed GM David had finally gotten his team to operate under the same wavelength, they put in 2 straight sub-par performances. The Michel injury is proving critical to this offense as they have no viable back-up to take his place and with QB Brees simply managing the game with only 9 fantasy points, worries should arise for the Yo Selfs' ceiling heading into the playoff push.
- Crunching Munchies: They really have nowhere to go but up, and for the first time this season, good news came to Crumbtown. Two big trades on deadline day are bumping up the value of both WR DT and Golladay in a position the Munchies have struggled in all season. They have struggled everywhere but that's besides the point...
- Grafton's A Bum: If you gave The Bums two weeks to score points against 1 week of Mr. Nice Guy, it would be a close game.
Matchup Highlights:
- Fans were left disappointed for the first time this season leaving from the Wildcat Matchup of the Week where GM Brody and the Scoregasms (7-1) got to the other side of the Ravagn' Rainbows (4-4) and found the W in the pot of gold, along with Dalvin Cook's hamstring. With a final score of 104-63, Scoregasms had no trouble despite their poor QB play with Diggs and Cohen leading the way with 17 points each. RB Carson of the Rainbows did his best to keep the game close with 18 points of his own but received absolutely no help from his teammates, accounting for 29% of his teams points for the week.
- Losing another close matchup, the (0-8) Crunching Munchies fell to Ravioli Ravioli (4-4) 94-88. QB Newton and CMC combined for an astounding 50 points while RB White aided in the victory with 15. A disappointing performance from the Munchies' WR corps is to blame for the loss with only 4 combined points while their defense kept it exciting with 22.
- Bigpapihugetime (3-5) emerged victorious over Belichick Yo Self (5-3) 110-82. As predicted, this one was never close as GM Kurt jumped ahead Thursday night with 42 points from Hopkins and Drake, over half of GM David's entire points for the week. Although Antonio Brown and Lamar Miller combined with 39 of their own for the Yo Self's, RB Mixon ran away for 26 points and a comfortable win for the Huge Times.
- If you like a good ole fashion beat down, you might want to go rewatch the highlights of Mr. Nice Guy (5-3) vs Grafton's A Bum (2-6), or just read the DTDB Moment of the Week. The Nice Guys slaughtered the Bums to the tune of 135-81. RB Gurley showed mercy late in the game, pulling up at the goal line rather than going for the final kill, but not before he combined with fellow RBs Lindsay and Conner for seventy freaking eight points. The absolute disrespect didn't stop there as QB Luck dumped salt onto the wounds with another 29 points. Yep thats right, GM Grafton had 4 of the top 5 players in this matchup ceding only to QB Cousins who avoided personal embarrassment with 25 points. For once, the Bums should probably follow the actions of the Browns...
- Tittsburgh Feelers (5-3) defeated Pasca's Daddy (4-4) in a high scoring affair that saw 9 players reach 15 points or more. QB and WR tandem Watson and Fuller teamed up for the last time this season (Fuller sent to IR for knee) combining for 59 points while Watkins, Hunt, and Howard all joined in on the fun. GM Dom was not to be taken lightly (as Darren can attest to) and put up 50 points from Trubisky and Evans while Thielen and Murray continued to shine for 16 points each. In the end however, it just wasn't enough as Will Lutz kicked home the victory for the Feelers with 16 points to close out the matchup on Sunday Night.
- Hoochie Mamas (5-3) defeated Miking Mikes (4-4) in a close 111-105 matchup that left GM Darren weeping in self loathing disgust. After dropping RB Murray the week before and being forced to watch the newly signed running back run circles around his defense, RB Marlon Mack did the same again, scoring 27 points for the Mamas. Kamara and Boyd each put up 20 but were put to shame by their fellow RBs and WRs who combined for 16. QB Mahomes saw the kink in the armor and took it for 34 points and the victory over GM Darren who has yet another reason to keep him lying awake at night wondering what could have been...
Media Conferences:
I was blessed to discuss talk with General Manager of the Tittsburgh Feelers organization, Matt, this week on how he feels about his team's performance this season and the interview was nothing but a treat. Matt exclaimed with credence that this may just be the year the Feelers go all the way. "Losing WR Fuller this week was a huge blow but with WR Cooper on the Cowboys, things might be looking up. QB Watson also gets another good target with WR Thomas in Houston. Sitting at 5-3, we feel great about our standings and are not even the slightest bit worried about our Week 9 matchup against Bigpapihugetime." He goes on to ridicule GM Kurt's decision making, "[The Huge Times'] starting QB won't even be on the field this week... he'll be on the sideline eating crab legs." I asked Matt about his reluctance to speak openly to the media or on any league forums and he explained, "just because you don't hear a lot from the franchise doesn't mean the feelers aren't watching. Just remember..." he proceeded with a smile, "Real G's move in silence like lasagna." There you have it, Weezy F Baby, and the F is for Feelers.
A fantastic surprise to our studio this week was Make A Wish Foundation winner, Spencer who is a diehard Hoochie Mamas fan. Spencer is suffering from chronic homework syndrome found in nearly 55% of all STEM majors (Bio kids not included) whose lifelong dream is to see a Hoochie Mama championship. Spencer was interviewed at our studio to give his take on the Hoochie Mamas' season thus far and assess their chances in the playoffs, claiming "I am VERY confident that we will make the playoffs and go All The Way, breezing through any team in our way because we are led by an absolute beast of a manager, GM Augie." He continued the praise for the Mamas' GM, "I've loved the trade GM Augie has made, as I feel WR Baldwin will put the team in a better position to make a deeper run. One area I'd like to see improvement from the team is an increase in intensity. Sometimes, it feels as if this is all just a game to the team and the GM needs to understand it is much, much more. If we continue to play our stars, Mahomes and Saquon, we will definitely stand a chance against Mr. Nice Guy and Scoregasms in the playoffs, despite the curse." Spencer left the facilities with tons of signed Mama's gear from a Saquon Jersey to a Hoochie Hoochie ball cap, beaming with pride and excitement.
Weekly Awards:
- Murphy Mixup:
This week's Murphy Mixup goes to GM Michael and the winless Crunching Munchies for swipping, swooping, and swapping out Tyler Lockett and Demaryius Thomas back and forth all week. They ultimately settled with DT to start at the WR2 position who crumbled for 3 points while Lockett sat the bench with 11, exactly enough for the victory.
- Oh Boy! Play of the Week:
GM Kurt wins the Oh Boy! title for his decision to start RB Drake (22 points) over Breida (5 points) in a key decision for the win. Great job Kurt!
- WTF Waiver Wire:
GM Darren must be really jealous of all the spotlight Kelly usually gets for this title as he has taken it upon himself to outdo Kelly for the dumbest cuts and pick ups in the league. Darren dropped WR Marvin Jones for RB Hynes for $20, who after the Golden Tate trade is the top dog in the Lions WR corps, and sitting on the waiver wire.
- DTDB Moment of the Week:
Darren exposed himself once again this week, giving complete control to Dom to smear Murray and Thielen in his face. Dom continues to ride on top as Darren is strapped up and trapped under him where Kamara can't save him. For Darren and the Mikes, its gut check time, but I really don't want to know what Dom has stuffed in there.
BREAKING NEWS
Waiver Wire bids just went through and GM Michael got WR Marvin Jones for $33, outbidding the Bums by one dollar! Suck it Kelly, Suck it! Also, nice try August for bidding $6, so close.
Okay now back to the Weekly Awards:
- Champion Spotlight:
This week under the Champion Spotlight is 2016 Champion, GM Ian who came in and gave some excellent insight in such a rare perspective of being an official MFFL Champion. In the words of Ian, "Being a Millbrook champion means a ton given there are only three in existence at the moment. Last season was tough with DJ getting injured right away and never recovering. It hurt from going from first to almost worst, but this season I realized that it is all about building a more complete team. You have to have breakout players at all positions on your team so that when one is slacking, the others step up. It is, after all, a team game and that is the way it should be played. As far as my fellow members of the league, besides Connor and Kurt, they should be looking at us for advice. I won't say much, but you have to be decisive and confident in your moves. That is what league champions do, and no, Darren's church league doesn't count." Excellently put by GM Ian as he sheds some light on the enigma that is being a Fantasy Champion.
- Pasca's Ponderable:
I won't be the Dansky, I won't be the Dansky, I won't be the Dansky, OMG DT got traded to Houston, I won't be the Dansky, I won't be the Dansky, OMG Golden Tate got traded, go Golladay, I won't be the Dansky, I won't be the Dansky, OMG I got Marvin Jones, I won't be the Dansky, I won't be the Dansky...
Next Week's Matchups:
- Pasca's Daddy (4-4) vs Ravioli Ravioli (4-4): Wildcat Matchup of the Week
The Ravioli's get Zeke back and will be operating at full strength with Cam and CMC having a juicy matchup against the Bucs, but with Thielen continuing to ball out and Olsen and Funchess potentially limiting Cam's value this week, this will be interesting until Zeke wins it late Monday Night.
- Tittsburgh Feelers (5-3) vs Bigpapihugetime (3-5):
The Feelers' momentum stretches into week 9 with Cooper in his new stadium while Hunt and Howard outscore Drake and Breida.
- Ravagn' Rainbows (4-4) vs Mr. Nice Guy (5-3):
You just can't say no to the Nice Guys
- Miking Mikes (4-4) vs Grafton's A Bum (2-6):
If the Bums can get a win, it's against the Mikes, but they won't. Brown and Kamara are too much for Odell
- Crunching Munchies (0-8) vs Hoochie Mamas (5-3):
This is the week boys, Munchies capitalize on a Saquon and Green bye week and ride Kerryon, Jones, and Golladay to victory with pride.
- Scoregasms (7-1) vs Belichick Yo Self (5-3):
Curse.
So there you have it, the week 8 Weekly Wrap-Up is officially in the books and GM Michael is running off as much sleep as he has victories. Happy Halloween to everyone and may this fantasy week be full of treats and lacking in tricks except for the trick plays that the Panthers run where we get Moore, Samuel, or CMC running with the ball in space. May the Force be with you all...
EDIT:
holy crap, guess who Kelly just picked up on the Waiver Wire for $4. I'm done.
Also Kurt has now bid a combined $51 on Fitzmagic with his $16 bid this week. (which one of these goons gets WTF Waiver Wire next week?)
